Gene Madness by Linda Guyan is a murder mystery. Meet Tessa North. She’s a serial killer, her entire life built on lies and on secrets. Someone is watching her though, someone knows exactly what she is. Everything changes when she receives a strange package with a card that directs her to the basement of her house. There, things take an odd turn. An anonymous man calls Tessa, a man who says he knows her well, knows who she is, and she isn’t who she thought she was. Tessa’s life is turned upside down as she follows a trail that leads her to Foxwood Bay, where the long-abandoned Merrick Asylum is located and there the Merrick massacre happened. Tessa is about to find out that nothing in her life was what she thought. Tessa is about to find out that there may be a very good reason why she is a serial killer. Gene Madness by Linda Guyan is a terrifying murder mystery with plenty of action and twists to keep it going. The book kicks off in the past, laying a bit of groundwork, but not giving too much away before it moves on to the present. From there, the roller coaster starts up and off it goes on one long twisting, turning, gut-wrenching ride, a ride that is going to open your eyes wide because you won’t want to shut them. This is a very cleverly written story, with some colorful and well-developed characters who change throughout the plot. The plot is unique, very well thought out, and there is no let-up as the story romps to a conclusion that you might just not be expecting. Excellent story, well recommended for fans of murder mysteries and those who love a twisting story to get involved in. I am looking forward to reading more from Linda Guyan.
